Brian Wilson RIP
R.I.P. Brian Douglas Wilson
Born: June 20th, 1942 in Inglewood, California.
Died: June 11th, 2025, in California
attributed to Arthur Schopenhauer:
“talent hits a target no one else can hit; genius hits a target no one else can see.”
Brian was a genius lyricist...
”I know perfectly well I’m not where I should be”...
melancholy and carefree...a virtuoso yin & yang
Brian was a genius song crafter...
and his piano was situated in a sand pit in the middle of his living room.
Brian was a genius music producer...
and he only used a 4-track recording machine.
Brian fell in love with music upon hearing
George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at his grandmother’s house
(truth be told, the Summer of Riesling was created in 1975 when the General AND Manager
first heard Rhapsody in Blue at his mother’s side as she was sewing his first Canada Dry jacket).
Inspired by the energy of Chuck Berry,
the seamless harmonies of the Four Freshmen,
the majesty of production of Phil Specter,
the sheer volume of creation and disparateness of the Beatles,
Brian contributed songs to our lives that are ingrained into our actual souls
much as our first taste of a Mosel Kabinett is imprinted onto our wine souls.
Brian was so outside of his time that his creations defined the time.
Brian was a perfectionist...and it made him crazy
(how many symphonies to God can one individual create, after all?!).
Brian ultimately learned that you can’t stop the waves,
but you can learn to surf
(he apparently only surfed once in his life...the board dinged him on the head and that was that).
Brian Douglas Wilson, we raise a mighty glass of Riesling in your honour.
