A Conversation with Pedro Parra: The Doctor of Terroir
October 13 2020 | 8:00 PMTruly, Pedro Parra has a Ph.D. in terroir from the Institut National Agronomique de Paris-Grignon.
And who is this Pedro Parra, you ask???
Well, he is the Master Blaster of Terra Firma /
the Father of Dragonstone /
the Breaker of Soil Stereotypes /
the Khal of the Great Terrestrial Sphere.
Okay, I exaggerate just a little.
Pedro is a man from Chile, who grew up in the 2nd city of Concepción.
He fell in love with rocks and he then studied those rocks.
And while he also makes wine, he is not a winemaker per se…
Pedro only sees rocks and stuff through the medium of grape juice.
He also loves jazz music. And he does not like Coca Cola wines.
I have no clue where this conversation might go.
Wine Suggestion: this might take some digging (Pedro would love that!) but it would be awesome
to have some of Pedro's family's wines (under the label of Pedro Parra y Familia).
Astor Wines in NYC has 2 wines of Pedro's in play at present (link HERE):
Pedro Parra "Imaginador" 2018
Pedro Parra "Pencopolitano" 2017
You could also locate some of the Clos des Fous wines from Chile,
where Pedro is one of four partners in the venture.
Pedro also consults at a bunch of wineries so you could venture to those
to feel his impact: Jean-Marc Roulot (Burgundy); Altos las Hormigas (Argentina);
Marco Marengo (Italy); Zuccardi (Argentina)
Instructor: Pedro Parra...THE Pedro Parra!!! & Paul Grieco of Terroir
