a journey to South Africa

24 Harrison St, New York, NY 10013

Wine People of America, we have a new wine land to explore.
And it is SOUTH AFRICA!
Yes, yes, the first wine vintage in S.A. was in 1659CE.,
helmed by the Dutchman Jan van Riebeeck,
AND lots of grape juice has emanated
from this beautiful landscape over the succeeding 364 years.
BUT much of the wine made in the 20th century was of the bulk variety.
It is really in the here and the now
(at least since the formation of a democratic government in 1994)
that the fullness of the wine glory of South Africa is being broadcast to the world.
And holy smogolies, that grape juice is focused and pure and bright and lively.
Truly, these wines are modern but underpinned by centuries of history.
From the old vine Chenin Blancs, to their very own Pinotage,
to the vitally crisp Sauvignon Blancs, to the deep & brooding Cabernet blends,
South Africa has EVERYTHING a wine lover desires.
And we are going to revel in telling this story.
The specifics of the event:
-it will be a walk-around tasting, with at least 30 wines

-there will be foodstuffs...no clue if we can have a proper braai but Bryce will give it a shot
-there will be a conversation, about the country, its history, its present wine wonderdom
We very much look forward to celebrating South Africa,
in all its wonder, with you.
