Sicily: A Deep Dive

Of Italy’s 20 wine regions, the island of Sicily remains firmly distinct.
Firstly, it is an island and therefore carries that emotional baggage.
Secondly, while its grapes were always golden, it lacked a coterie of golden producers,
who truly appreciated its indigenous varietals AND unique terroir AND insane history.
Thirdly, the Italian wine revolution of the 70s / 80s really only fully arrived here
in this new century. And damn, we are thankful. Because, simply put,
Sicily is everything we want in a wine growing region.
Wine Suggestion: well, you could come to the table with:
Sicilian Bianco: a Grillo, a Catarratto, or an Inzolia.
Sicilian Rosso: a Mount Etna Red, a Nero d'Avola,
You could even push the envelope and get some Marsala...that would be crazy!!!
Just ask your local merchant for a glorious Sicilian wine!
Instructor:
Paul Grieco of Terroir (his family is from Calabria...which is near Sicily)
